I’ve been listening to some interesting new music, and looking at interesting new people and doing different things. I am starting to get a serious hankering to play again. I miss it. Badly.
Happily, Stacia is having similar thoughts, and she came over tonight to talk about putting something together. I’m hoping we can figure out a way to make some interesting music happen. We’re both into playing live again, and I’m into recording (It’s the frustrated Steely Dan horn section in me).
I’m thinking about the sounds of Royksopp, Groove Armada, and Zero 7… and a particular song from Earth Wind & Fire: September. Lush harmonies, searing melodies, and slow burning grooves that you can’t help but air-drum to.

Heh. I’ve been playing September on my iPod and iTunes quite a bit lately. I put together a playlist of (for lack of a better term) I called “toe tappers”, including:
Billy Joel, Zanzibar
Prince, 1999
Fastball, The Way
Smash Mouth, AllStar
Doobie Brothers, Listen to the Music
AC/DC, It’s a Long Way to the Top (if you wanna Rock & Roll)
dZihan & Kamien, Stiff Jazz
English Beat, Mirror in the Bathroom
Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Endicott
Eddie Kendricks, Keep on Truckin’ (part 1)
Mr. Scruff, Get a Move on
Scissor Sisters, Take Your Mama
Macy Gray, When I see You
Polygroovers, Real Illusion
Little Feat, Let It Roll
and, well, you know I love Steely Dan.
However, I seem to recall you being in a 70’s revival band playing disco & funk and saying, “Well, it’s fun, but it’s musical masturbation.”
Were you ever a fan of Tower of Power ?
you finagle the bits to make recordings and i’ll flirt with the bookers and get us nice gigs where we can hear ourselves in the monitors.
love-
stacia
