Do you have something sitting somewhere on your computer that you really, really, hate? I do.
My ex-boyfriend and I had a shared iTunes library. Generally our musical tastes were compatible, but there is one major standout: Venus Hum. If I force myself to listen to it, I like the arrangements, the chord progressions, the skill of the musician’s in the band, but I hate the sound of the vocalists voice with a passion. It sends me into a rage. I don’t know why.
(Update: For the record, the ex claims this is not his nauseating music, and that I “must have my [boyfriends] confused”.)
I want a fat red button with a chunky, mechanical ca-thunk sound that I can crush under my fist when I want to delete something that I hate this much. Perhaps some audio feedback that includes shattering glass, or a toilet flushing or something.

I recently switched from a Treo 650 to a Motorola Razr. I was disappointed with the Treo for various issues, primarily failure to deliver an implied user experience. So I bought a Razr to replace it because it was cute. I knew going into it I was probably going to dislike the UI. Moto phones have been slow and awful and annoying since they went to color screens. I got it anyway because it was cute as hell to look at. It makes me smile when I see it, the same way my iPod and Cuisinart electric kettle do.
But I discovered something even more lovable about it: That satisfying chunky mechanical ca-thunk it makes when I snap it shut after an unpleasant conversation. In the simple muscle sequence of snapping the phone shut between my thumb and fingers I not only end the conversation, but I get aural and physical feedback that I have dealt with the matter. It is complete. It is done.
That’s really satisfying. I want more simple satisfying experiences like that in my life.
