I was on my porch checking e-mail from about 8-830 this morning. I had just shut down and had my toy under my arm. I bent down to pick up a bottle on my porch as three guys casually walked up to me and grabbed the laptop right from under my arm!
I was so mad I threw the bottle down the street as they ran with my laptop, but they were at the end of the block already. I ran into the house, grabbed my phone and my keys (both of which were miraculously where they were supposed to be), ran back outside and got in my car as I dialed 911.
Since 911 sends you to highway patrol who then dispatches, I was already driving down the street by the time I got connected to SFPD emergency. I gave them my info as I took a few turns and miraculously saw them 2 blocks away. I pulled out of traffic for a few moments to give the police the info, then kept driving. I sneakily followed them to the bus stop where, if you can believe this, they got on the bus.
I decided to follow them since I knew they could get off anywhere and the cops might not catch them. Finally a bunch of cop cars showed up. I frantically waved them to the bus, which they pulled over. The cops piled on the bus, and within a minute they were piling out again with my laptop and the dudes.
I have a serious adrenaline buzz. I’m not upset now… but I may be later on when it wears off. I wasn’t hurt, and I got my (i.e. work’s) property back.

And so… TELL the nice ppl about how the SFPD basically *encouraged you out of* REALLY pressing charges against these assHats? (Was it… maybe… SATAN? hmmm?) OR was it possibly because - although you performed a heroic - and maybe stoopit-crazy-and-possibly-life-threatening feat of agility and acuity, THIS IS AN ELECTION YEAR?
Go ON - TELLthe nice ppl what the police told you about the *prosecutor* - THE SF DA’s Office - not wanting to prosecute “cases like these”… you know - the air-tight ones - where perps are chased down, caught red-handed wih the evidence, tampering with and attempting to destroy said evidence - with witness(es) prepared to testify…
Gee… do you suppose that since they got off with not so much as a slap on the wrist, they might be emboldened to SHOOT someone on their next joint venture?
