scary server shiat

I had to force restart my server tonight, which means holding the power key for several seconds until it dies, then hitting it again to make it go again. Which really is about as technical as I get wrt web server stuffs. After doing that tonight, things ran fine for awhile… then something happened, and my web services had just stopped. The pushbutton server software wasn’t working, nor was command line. In desperation, I just diid a graceful reboot of the entire machine. That repaired it. Bleh. That was scary.

SADDAM HUSSEIN EXECUTED…

It happened.

Saddam Hussein has been hanged, state-run television reported Saturday. “Criminal Saddam was hanged to death,” state-run Iraqiya television said in an announcement. The station played patriotic music and showed images of national monuments and other landmarks.

A U.S. judge on Friday refused to stop Saddam’s execution, rejecting a last-minute court challenge. (Read more…)

Pineapple Upside Down Cake Night

tasty cake, stolen from http://www.rachelleb.com/I quit smoking 4 days ago. Actually I quit smoking about 6 years ago, but started again when Gram had her stroke. Too many hours spent on the phone talking to morons. Smoking was my only option.
Anyway, I quit again. And I think it will stick. But I’m having a *bad* day of it. Technically, I think I am on my last day or so of actual physical withdrawal.

I decided to bake a pineapple upside down cake to make up for it. I had *no* baking supplies. No sugar, baking powder, nothing. So restocking all the basics was about 40 bucks. For a cake.

This had better be a good cake :) (Image stolen from http://www.rachelleb.com/ — Mine was prettier and more caramel-icious, but I was too lazy to take a picture myself.)

fuggly

FugglyI’m not exactly a slave to fashion. I wear a kilt more often than not when I’m not at work because it’s comfy. My shirts alternate between bad t-shiurts or cute but out of season button down shirts.
So generally I’m not much of an expert on fashion. But I feel no guilt whatsoever in judging Ugg boots, and the many people who wear them ugly, ugly, ugly. There is no excuse for them. Ever.

That is all.

Bush Is Urged to Act on Criticism of Muslim - New York Times

White House officials said they were aware that some Democrats and Muslims were urging President Bush to admonish Representative Virgil H. Goode Jr., Republican of Virginia, and Dennis Prager, the conservative commentator, for suggesting that the first Muslim elected to the House had no place in Congress. “We’re aware of the situation,” said Dana Perino, a spokeswoman for Mr. Bush, “but no judgments have been made.” Mr. Goode said the election of Keith Ellison, a Minnesota lawyer who converted to Islam as a college student, posed a threat to American values. Mr. Prager, a presidential appointee to the board that oversees the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, said Mr. Ellison should not serve if he could not swear on a Bible, though he has apologized for those remarks. Mr. Ellison plans to use the Koran during a private swearing-in ceremony next month. (Read more…)

3 quakes in 3 days…

It’s rare that I feel quakes here. I always seem to be adjusting my chair, or going over a bumpy spot in the road, or some other random physical thing that makes it impossible to feel the frequent short jolts we get.

The past 3 nights, however, I felt every one, and it’s a tiny bit freaky.

m’just sayin.
