SFist: Fatal Shooting On 280

I wondered what the hell this was… I was hitting the 101/280 North/South split at 730 and it was clear 280 South was stopped cold. Effing freaky.

Last night a 27-year-old man was shot and killed while driving on the 280. This is the second freeway killing in less than a week. 37-year-old Luis Solari of Richmond was driving his Honda car at around 6 p.m. going southbound between the Alemany and Monterey boulevards exits when the shooting occurred. So far no arrests have been made, but according to the Gate:

San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens said the suspect vehicle was a small red four-door car of unknown make. He said initial reports that the suspect’s car was gold or tan were incorrect.
Two children were also in the car Solari was driving, a seven- and eight-year-old. None of the kids were injured. Investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked the rush hour attack.

Holiday cynicism

Tis the season.

No, not Christmas, but politics, terror, and the war on everything. What fabulous surprises does Kris Kringlebush have in store for America’s collective hearth stockings in his last holiday season?

  • Proof from Ann Coulter that Democrats really are stupid yet diabolically evil traitors (Hillary has been having islamist lesbian botox abortion sex parties within spitting distance of a Gymboree!!^&#$)?
  • A fancy update to that tired security advisory system (Threat level: Rudolph Red)?
  • The “discovery” of a terrorist plot to harm the blond and blue eyed goodness of the heartland (Al Qaida queenpin codename “Mrs. Klaws” caught anthraxing our chirrun’s snickerdoodles)?
  • America’s most wanted criminal captured (George and Bandar, doing a bit of last minute Christmas shopping, smoked bin Laden out of his hole and got those nice folks at Macy’s to wrap him up in a shiny bow)?
  • News that the “surge” is working (Last month had more suicide bombings in about 4 years, so let’s surge some more, this time with feeling!!1one!1)?

Oh, I shiver in anticipation.

Interesting article on Doctor Ferragamo

condi lookin fierceWhile she [Condoleeza Rice] never seemed an ideological Republican prior to her time with Bush Sr, upon her return to Stanford, many of her friends - who, interestingly, are in the main far more leftwing than she is - detected a hardening in her approach to issues such the affirmative action that had greatly assisted her own rise. She was also extremely autocratic. She was intelligent; she was always right. She believed deeply that she was God’s instrument, guided by His will. Despite her inexperience as a manager, she felt that compromise and coalition-building were an unnecessary waste of time. She could be ruthless. She accomplished much, was also feared - and, of course, she was exceptional. (Read More)

$100K Violin Reported Stolen From Car

For Nicolas Orbovich, losing his violin was like losing a member of the family. A concert violinist, Orbovich said he left his instrument, made in 1892 and worth $100,000, in its case and on the backseat of his car Saturday in a parking lot in this northwestern Indiana city. He left the doors unlocked.

He said he returned less than five minutes later and, as he drove off, he realized it was gone. (Read More)

Really? Really?! This is sad and awful, but come on. This seems to be a holiday evergreen sort of article, and you’d think folks would learn.

I have a much easier time sympathizing with Joe Lally who very recently had his tour van pillaged. It’s a bit difficult to take all your shit inside to keep it safe. But when you have a single and extremely expensive piece of equipment which can easily be carried on your person, there is no excuse to leave it in a car. Especially anywhere in say, Indiana, the toe jam of the world.

Shooting death at the Sony (Westfield) Metreon in San Francisco

An 18-year-old Oakland man was shot to death at San Francisco’s busy Metreon shopping center Sunday night, after an argument with at least one other young man just inside the building’s entrance. (Read More)

That’s it. I am done with the emm effing Westfield/Sony Metreon. Hailed as manna from geek heaven when it opened, the mal became low rent and creepy within a year of its opening: Understaffed, rude, filthy theaters, unspeakably disgusting bathrooms with no mirrors, and incapable of handling crowd control (for “gala” openings like Transformers).

The only thing they did right was make widespread use of self service ticket kiosks.

Shut it down Sony. Raze the ugly building to the ground, and let someone else make use of the space.
