Privacy disclosure for credit application

I’m looking into buying a new car, and they have an online credit check. I clicked on the privacy policy and read this:

Disclosure of Private Information
We may disclose all of the information we collect, as described above, to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements. We may make such disclosures about you as a consumer, customer, or former customer.

We may share Private Information that consists of transaction information with our affiliates. Our affiliates include other automobile dealerships and financial companies.

We may also disclose Private Information about you as a consumer, customer, or former customer, to non-affiliated third parties as permitted by law.

Is that normal language for a credit check? If I include all my information, including social security number, can they legally share that info? I get that that info gets shared around with other finance companies, but with marketing companies? Marketing companies with my social security number?

*Weirded out*

Taxes

I did an extension this year (OK I do every year)… I sent federal and state taxes off at the same time. I would imagine that they would get processed in a very different timeframe… however, both my returns arrived today, and were dated within 1 day of each other. That seems weird.

Bank of America has pissed me off for the last time

My atm card just stopped working a few days ago… I had made some big purchases so I thought perhaps I had hit my daily limit… but it persisted.

I had to visit an actual teller to get some cash and ask wtf was going on. Naturally I spent 20 minutes in line since only 2 tellers were available in the brave new world of self service.

“Uhhh we canceled your card and reissued you a new one… not sure why. But a new card is being delivered m’kaythx. *big fake smile* Call customer service for more info teehee! NEXT VALUED CUSTOMERTROID IN LINE!!!”

So I called this am. The explanation was that my card had been ‘compromised’ en masse by a third party and they flatly refuse to tell me how or why BUT THIS IS FOR YOUR PROTECTION. Funny how that’s starting to sound an awful lot like Brother Shrub listening in on people’s phone calls for the security of the motherland, but refusing to tell even congress how why when where or any details whatsoever to give us cause to trust him.

Should I trust my money to a bank that operates this opaquely? For me, it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back. I have stupidly suffered 10 years of indifferent customer service. of them always cashing the largest checks first to ensure the maximum number of overdrafts when I was broke. and finally, embarassing me by shutting my cards down with no explanation.

Do you think I can sue for the cost of the massage I am going to get to work this nonsense out of my stiff neck muscles?

Update: Kniwt pointed me to this article discussing a break-in at OfficeMax. Hmm. Could be, wabbit.

Bubye.

Car woes…

I have a rockin’ little 92 Nissan NX which I adore. I’m a die hard motorcyclist, but I had to buy a car when I broke my leg a few years ago. I was intending to keep it only through my recovery, but it ended up being nice to have a little car around to run errands with and whatnot. But I never intended to keep it so I never really bothered with maintenance.

Since I decided to keep it, it was time to put some money into it. A $400ish CV Joint/Axle replacement job turned into about $1900 after they told me all the struts wanted replacing. They are all original, and the car has 68k, so it was time… but MAN I wasn’t expecting that little surprise.

I sure hope my ESPP does well next quarter!
