Reevu MSX1 motorcycle helmet with rear-view mirror - Engadget

ENGADGET - Putting a clear pane in the back of a motorcycle helmet, viewable via a front-mounted mirror, might seem like an obvious idea in, er, hindsight, but it took helmet manufacturer Reevu to make it a reality. The company’s MSX1, which has been the worst-kept secret in biker circles for several years, has finally made its official debut, at the EICMA show in Milan. The helmet relies on a distinctive raised crown, which provides a clear line of sight from front to back, enabling the mirror — made of unbreakable reflective polycarbonate — to capture the view from the rear. The helmet is expetcted to be available worldwide at about $399 early next year.

Hot. Not as hot as a heads up display on the visor with current time, map, nearest gas stations marked where I will need them based on my current MPG, a bluetooth headset for my cell phone, and a display of everything behind me, but still hot.

Yamaha Concept Hybrid Motorcycle

Yamaha unveils a concept hybrid motorcycle

Yay for the concept. Boo, obviously for the execution. This thing looks bigger than my NX, and I shan’t be using it to split lanes down Sutter street during rush hour.

I’m not a danger freak or speed junkie for the most part. I ride a motorcycle because its fantastically practical. Especially in San Francisco, where you can’t park, except for the main “thoroughfares” which might as well be parking lots.

A motorcycle allows me to move through traffic a lot faster than even the smallest car, and when I arrive at my destination I can generally park about 10 feet from the entrance.

Cool pic though. Now make it 1/4 the size and I’m on it.

Man fined for using a dummy to poach on commuter lane

(11-04) 09:40 PST NOVATO — A 28-year-old Petaluma man was pulled over Wednesday and slapped with a $351 fine for using a kickboxing dummy dressed in a Miami Dolphins windbreaker and baseball cap to poach on the commuter lane.

At least he put some thought into it. And I hope to god he was going at least 75mph and closing every gap he could. I ride a moto and can legally use the HOV lane. It pisses me off when ppl who shouldn’t be there use it, but when they do, god help them if they get in the lane and drive slowly. Then I unleash the razorblade talons of death in the sides of my boots and key their cars as I drive split past them.

(OK that was just a fantasy)
