Professional

image of wireframeI am an interaction designer. At its most basic level, I lead the translation of business requirements into a coherent user interface specification, and communicate this to the relevant people including stakeholders, customers, engineers, designers - anyone that can help in the creation of making a great product.

I currently manage interaction and visual designers for Yahoo!'s Personalization and Vertical Search products.

Previous experiences included:

  • Interaction designer at Digitas/Modem Media where I consulted for Safeway, Microsoft, Sephora, and Hewlett-Packard.
  • Interaction designer at Planetout Partners, Inc. - the parent corp. for Gay.com, PlanetOut.com, KLEPTOMANIAC.com, and OUT&ABOUT.com.
  • Interaction designer at InterMap Systems, where I helped build various user interfaces to a proprietary medical taxonomy - essentially a medical thesaurus that enabled a layperson to search for medical terms in language scaling from near-slang to medical professional and receive relevant results.
  • Information architect for eTranslate.com, tending a suite of applications designed to up the speed and profitability of translation services...
  • Information architect at musicbank.com, which went belly up along with several other promising internet music delivery companies. Read a good article about musicbank, or check out the f*ckedcompany archive.
  • Information architect for VelocityHSI.
  • "Ulterior Decorator" - aka Principal Web Technologist for a little company called Netscape Communications, which was acquired by America Online, which in turn ate media empire Time Warner. I left about a year after AOL's acquisition of Netscape. Netscape was an unforgettable experience.

I have also done a fair amount of consulting in addition to working for Manual 3, Pacific Bell Internet and Delphi Internet (which was the third largest ISP in the world at the time -- pretty funny since you probably haven't heard of them :-)
